According to a study from the Institute of Directors and Barclays, only 56% of businesses can deal with a cyber-attack, and that shocking statistic comes at a time of highly significant cybersecurity threats!

Last year, Lincolnshire County Council’s computer system was shut down by hackers demanding a ransom, Talktalk was fined £400,000 for failing to protect over 100,000 customer’s data, and Tesco Bank had to pay millions of pounds to refund customers whose accounts were raided.

The IoD have stated that companies should take the following precautions to secure the safety of their staff and their business:

  • Put formal cyber security awareness schemes in place for staff member.
  • Train Directors more thoroughly.
  • Run more simulations to see how their company would deal with an actual attack.

“This report has revealed that business leaders are still putting cyber security on the back burner. The results, even for small and medium-sized businesses, could be catastrophic,” said the IoD’s director general Stephen Martin.
